A few months prior to him wanting to go, we tried anything to get him interested in the idea. From bribing him with gummy bears, to buying him some cool underwear. Nothing seemed to work.
For fear of prolonging things even more, we decided to drop any talk of it since he clearly wasn't ready. During that time we did however stick to subtle things- like buying him a new book for the car that was Elmo Potty Training.

Trucks (excavators to be exact) were, are, and most likely, always will be, one of Eric's favorite things! One day at Target, in passing, I mentioned when he was ready to go on the potty, maybe we could come back and buy one of the excavators he liked. No words were spoken of it after that, from him, or me.
Easter morning, it happened. Eric woke up and said, "Mama, Dada, I want to go pee-pee on the potty!" We simply took him over to the potty not knowing what to expect and...HE DID IT!!! Afterward he said, "Do I get to get my truck now!?!?!" Here I was thinking he didn't hear me, but I was wrong! He simply took a day to think about how much that truck really meant to him!!!
Update: Since I'm a little behind on our blog, it's now 2 months later. He is doing AWESOME! At first he would only use a very specific potty in the house. Then he moved onto any potty in the house. Then he made huge leaps and would go in potty's that weren't in the house, like a store and restaurant!!!
Currently he just has two little hurdles to get over. One being automatic flush toilets! One flushing on him the middle of him going didn't do good things for him! And we don't blame him! Haha! And the other being, poo-poo on the potty! He just recently showed interest in going on the potty, but he still prefers to hide and go in his pull ups! Him overcoming those things seem to be just around the corner!
And yes, his truck collection grew a few trucks in size during the potty training process! :)
